This post doesn't look at a mistranslation, but rather reports how a poster I saw on the back of a bus led me to remember the English equivalent for the saying

Quem não é visto não é lembrado.

In a flash of light, how we would say it in English came to mind:

Out of sight, out of mind

The lesson here is that many times, we get stumped when we have to think of an English equivalent for an idiomatic expression or proverb, when all along. the answers are all around us.
